Stephanie & Nick: Killington, VT

Back in September the state of Vermont had one of it's worst natural disasters in the states history. 1000's of people lost their homes and 100,000 plus were without electricity for days. Hurricane Irene dumped ton's of rain and rivers ran out of control, taking out roads and houses. Coming in the prime wedding season, many people and venues had to cancel and start over. My town of Killington was, for 4 days an island and cut off from everything due to road collapses. I was lucky enough to not have a wedding booked on that fateful weekend but did have one booked two weeks later in my town. Stephanie & Nick, who are good friends of mine decided to go ahead with their plans and kept the date. Being from California originally, Nick & Steph had many guest traveling from far away places. Getting to Killington wasn't easy those next few weeks after the storm but the guest's showed up with flying colors!

Nick's step father owns a beautiful house in town and they decided to have the whole shabang their!

Stephanie your dress was tailor made for you!!

We took a second to add some of the destruction into one of the formals.

Some of the most heartfelt moments during the reception happened on the dance floor and with the speaches!

What a dance party!

My favorite part of Nick & Stephanie is that they are total goofballs just like myself! They brought costumes for everyone to put on during the reception and we had some fun with the ring light!

I couldn't be happier for two of the most kind and loving people I have ever met...Stoked to be able to call you friends!

I've known the Rayner's for some time now and was elated to get asked to shoot their family portraits. We headed over to Billing's Farm in Woodstock for the shoot...Max was by far one of the best kid's I have ever shot, He laughed all day long...we had a blast.

Melissa & Bill: Chester, NH

Hockey is a weekly ritual in the northeast. Whether it's youth, high school, college or men's league, their is always a game going on. I met Bill after some of the Dartmouth boy's on our men's league team brought in a few new recruits...Bill was one of those guys! We got to talking and Bill and Melissa had been together for over ten years...I said "dude are you gonna pull the trigger or what?" He then broke the news that he had proposed and they were getting married this year and then the next question popped..."Will you shoot the wedding?" Of course I was ecstatic and said "absolutely!"

I met Melissa after shooting a friend of theirs wedding...she was one of the most down to earth girls! I immediately knew we were going to be a good match.

I didn't know a whole bunch about what the venue was going to look like as they were getting married at Melissa's parents house in NH. I'd seen a few pictures of the property but nothing did it justice. When I arrived Melissa's father had done such a good job setting up the tent and ceremony area...It was the perfect spot for a wedding!

As the girls got ready I took the details and had some fun...

Melissa's dress was so beautiful...it's like she was meant to wear it.

Again...Always stress the first look...just gives so much time to shoot formals!

Melissa...simply stunning...you are a looker!

Across the street from Melissa's families property was some awesome old barns....so we headed over their for a few shots.

The ceremony couldn't have gone any better...

Melissa and Bill did such a great job on the details...fit their personality perfectly.

Winter is here.

Andrea & Cy: Jay Peak Resort

I asked Andrea & Cy to meet me in downtown Rutland for our first meeting and get to know each other a little better. Well the coffee shop I chose turned out to close at noon on sundays...what kind of crap is that!! I knew we were going to be a good fit when they just shrugged it off and said "Let's go to Killington!"

Andrea & Cy are so down to earth it makes me want to hang with them all day.

I was pumped when they chose Jay Peak for their wedding day. Jay Peak has been working real hard on becoming a four season resort and I was excited to see how their progress was coming.

I started the day by meeting the girls in their room...

Andrea & Cy's daughter Sloan was a big part of the day and they had a nice moment as they were getting ready. So freakin' cute!

Cy dropped off a card before we left the room and there wasn't a dry eye in their...Including myself, I'm a sucker for sappy stuff.

Andrea & Cy opted to do a first look before the ceremony...the bridal party looked on as they saw each other for the first time...I always stress the first look!

After the first look we stepped away for some private time and some portraits...

Ceremony began and the flower girls just killed it with cuteness!! Man I can't get enough of this picture!

It didn't rain all day but the sky kind of opened up for Andrea and her Father to walk down the aisle...

Getting on the tram to the peak was so much fun after the ceremony...we were supposed to shoot the family portraits at the top but it was so fogged in we only could get a couple...sometimes its all about making the best of a bad situation.

...so we decided to shoot them by the base lodge!

Jesse & William: Lake Morey Resort

When it comes to hockey Will is no slouch...probably one of the most skilled players in our men's league, which is saying a lot! When Will asked me to shoot their wedding I was super pumped because even though we clash heads on the ice (I'm a bit of a hack...or just to slow to keep up with Will) we get on great off the ice.

I'd seen Jesse in the stands a few times and just like my wife loves to watch the boys play, we met for the first time at Bentley's on our first meeting...what a sweetheart!! They chose Lake Morey Resort for the day and I couldn't have been happier, It's a beautiful resort on the lake.

Gabby was out of town for this wedding so I brought along my good friend and very talented Justin Cash.

It was a gorgeous outside when we arrived and we were ready for a great day...

Jesse did such a good job with the flowers, they fit the day perfectly...

Will is a huge bruins fan so these seemed like the perfect choice for the garder...GO BRUINS!!!

After the ceremony we combed the property for some great formals...

Hershey's Kisses were all over all the tables so I thought it would make for a good ring shot...

Susan & John: Red Clover Inn Wedding

Engagement sessions can be interesting. Most times it's the first time you meet the couple and your immediately pointing a camera in their grill, Susan and John didn't make that moment awkward at all. Like I said in their engagement post John is a complete goofball (which is right up my alley) and Susan is just the sweetest person!! It was safe to say I was excited to shoot their wedding at the GORGEOUS Red Clover Inn.

Gabby and I arrived to find the place was bustling with life, the staff at Red Clover were setting up, guest were checking in and the girls were doing what girls do (no idea...LOL) up in the bridal sweet.

While Susan was getting ready John and Gabby were having a little to much fun...John, you are too funny!

I always stress a first look is my favorite way to shoot a wedding, it gives the B&G a chance to enjoy each other before the ceremony and leaves plenty of time for pictures before so they can congregate with guests during cocktail time.

Ashley & Jeremy: Turner Hill Country Club Wedding

I drove away from the first meeting with Ashley and Jeremy on Christmas Eve feeling super excited that I met them...I felt a friendship was beginning! Not only that but they were such a great couple, I could feel they were destined to be together. Come wedding day we couldn't have asked for a better weather...it wasn't too hot and Turner Hill Country Club brought the scenery..."Sun's Out Gun's Out" is what I always say!

Gabby and I arrived at Turner Hill just in time as the girls arrived right behind us and the festivities began...

The dress couldn't have been more perfect for Ash...

While Ashley zipped and buttoned Jeremy and the boys were doing the same...My partner in crime, Gabby, captured the boys.

Katie & Aarron are getting married in June of 2012 at the Woodstock Inn and I cant wait to shoot there wedding. I play hockey with Aarron in the winter and he is, to say the least, a good time!! Woodstock Inn Wedding Assist

Last month I assisted Justin Cash Photography in a wedding in Woodstock, Vermont @ the Woodstock Inn. Justin has been an influential part of my photography career and we work really well together.

It was a little overcast and the forecast called for some rain showers around ceremony time but luckily the weather held up till we had finished shooting all the formals.

Stephanie & Mark: E-Session

Stephanie said "Why are we going into Woodstock to shoot our engagement session when we can shoot it right here at our property!?" I was sceptical at first whether there was enough space to shoot a two hour engagement session, but boy was I wrong! Stephanie and Marc are care takers of an amazing property in Woodstock, Vt that is rich in history. The weather and the property brought together an awesome session but the bugs didn't let up...we got eaten alive by black flies. I have to say Stephanie and Marc were some of my easiest clients to work with...they were up for all my antics.

As we were walking up the hill we almost stepped right on this little snake...Did some research and it's an eastern milk snake...non poisonous obviously!!

The property included some great fields with wildflowers...the light was amazing.

Meathead Films Shoot in Killington

The famous Meathead Films from Burlington came to Killington this weekend for a private session at Bear Mt. Myself and a few other photog's were invited to come snap some stills while they filmed. I got a call to shoot some web images for the new Highline Lodge in Killington, VT. It's a beautiful property and I feel Greg and his staff will soon be very busy. Here is an image of the main lobby, a great spot to hang out in front of the fire after a long day of skiing!!

The story is about a rock climber who lost his job in the higher education field and started washing dishes in a resort town so he could do what he loved...rock climb. As I was going through the pictures for Mark and Miranda's wedding I found my cheeks starting to hurt...I couldn't stop smiling! I'm so happy for these two because they are two of the coolest people I know. I've known Miranda for a few years as she was one of my liquor reps. I met Mark in Simon Pierce as Miranda and Mark were registering for the wedding, we hit it off right away.

We started the day in the amazing bridal suite at the Red Clover Inn...the girls were drinking champagne and chatting about what girls chat about.

Miranda picked the perfect dress...She looked stunning!!

I didn't get much time with Mark because we were strapped for time but I did manage to get him looking "dapper dan" against the red barn...(Mark we both know you've had experience).

I always stress that a Bride and Groom do a first look as it gives us plenty of time to shoot the formals and a nice moment for you to have together by yourselves...

It's fitting that our cat casey is white because he loves the snow... our cat's are all indoor but we live on the second floor and have a nice size deck for them to get their outdoor ON!! Every morning after breakfast Casey stands at the back door waiting to get his 30 seconds in the snow before his paw's freeze...I finally had the camera ready to go and got these...

Their is not much I can say about Nine Inch Nails besides that I love them to death!! They are one of my favorite bands ever and Trent Reznor is a real genius when it comes to music. Last year my buddy and I went and saw them six times...I've seen a lot of live shows in my day but these were the most intense shows I had ever been to. They had a pretty relaxed camera policy so I was allowed to take my camera to pretty much any show...This was one of my favorite moments captured from all the shows.

And this leads perfectly into song of the day!! Beside you in time is one of those songs that puts you into a trance state...so good!! Dont forget to watch for the broken glass montage at the end...OMG.

Toronto Zoo

Robin and I were in Toronto, Canada a few weeks back and we had some free time so we decided to check out the zoo. It turned out to be a fairly cool windy day but we had a blast and captured some cool images. We are big cat people and we really enjoyed watching the tigers roam around their cages...It's always kinda sad to see them in cages but I'm sure they were born their and dont know much else.

Here are two shots that I really loved from the day.

And now for the song of the day...I think I remember listening to Bjork for the first time in high school and was blown away by how her music could take you to another place if you just closed your eyes. Especially in the album Vespertine which this song Pagan Poetry is from...Could listen to this song all day!!

So as I said, There was more to come on Amy & Geoff. I received a call from Amy about 3 weeks before the wedding and she was praying I was still available to shoot their wedding on the 23rd of October. It just so happened I was available and the wheels were set in motion.

I met Amy for the first time at a local breakfast place with eight of her friends on a sunday morning. It's safe to say they had a pretty good time the night before due to killington's annual brew fest! It was a pretty nice welcoming into the bridal party...I knew we would all get along well!

Geoff played a little professional hockey in Europe so I knew we would be just fine. I cant say I have met a couple who loves each other as much as these two... I feel I have friends for life! Thanks you two!

Amy killed it with the details and did almost everything on her own.

There was a ton of laughing and a little crying as Amy read her vows to the girls

Amy's dress was a stunner and she topped it off with some killer cowboy boot's.

The boy's were very relaxed as they tossed the pig skin around outside...

All I could think of when shooting these was...Geoff is gonna melt when he see's Amy.

The only way we were having the ceremony outside is if the temperature was above fifty...we barely got their and everyone hung in their like troopers!

I can't say it enough Amy...Stunner!!! I think I said it 100 times while shooting this shot...lol.

I met Ashley almost two years ago when she got in touch with me to shoot her wedding. Originally her wedding was set for fall of 2009 but a big mistake was made by the wedding coordinator at their original reception location...she double booked...Yikes!! She called me and was clearly upset and decided to push the event back a year. So it's safe to say that it had been a long time coming! I really enjoyed Ashley and Ryan's personalities, they were both so down to earth and fun to work with. Ashley wanted a more photojournalistic approach to her wedding day, I tried to deliver and hope they liked the photos.

When Shane & Emily told me there wedding date I was super bummed because I had already booked another wedding that day and wouldn't be able to make it to my best friends brothers wedding.

It just so happened that I qualified for a golf tournament just north of San Fransisco two weeks before the wedding. I called Shane and said "Hey, I want to give you guys a gift for your wedding...how about an engagement shoot?" They loved the idea and the wheels were set in motion. I was super stoked to shoot there E-Session in San Fran as it's one of my favorite city's in the world!!

The day turned out to be amazing weather in what can be a dicey city to judge the forecast...We traveled all over the city sight seeing and taking pictures, It was a really fun day and I couldnt be happier for the two of them!

We started in the park where the ceremony and reception were going to be. I found this awesome Arch and thought it would frame them well...

Its safe to say Emily is a stunner...and a great dresser to boot... (I love her style!)

Next we headed over to the western part of the city and Sutro Heights Park. Lots of great places to shoot!

Jason and I play hockey together and when they asked me to shoot their wedding I was elated! We couldn't have asked for a better day, the sun was shinning and the temperature was cool. They decided on Dartmouth's Riding Center, which was a great choice, for the ceremony and reception. Crystal wasnt into getting ready photos so we jumped right into pre-ceremony rituals as they arrived at 3pm.

The boys arrived first and the beers were flowing...

The girls were next to arrive and there was no shortage of beers for them either...

Crystal's horse Lyric was stabled here at the riding center and she visited her best buddy before the wedding, I really enjoyed shooting her with Lyric!!

DRC had so many great spots to shoot the formals...

I have to say Crystal and Jason both were stunners...

The ceremony was in this amazing field adjacent to the riding center and it played out perfectly. I was amazed by the simplicity of the hay benches but it worked, spot on!

I didnt know much about Faith and Peter when they got in touch with me except that they lived in Oregon and Peter was from Woodstock. This made for a great combination, West Coast laidback + East Coast Swagger = Great couple. The thing that hit me first was how cool everyone was when I arrived...There were friends cooking the meals, bridal party drinking out on the deck and the bride (Faith) playing with her other best friend (her dog).

As Faith started to get ready her best friends (who I loved) helped with her makeup...

While the girls got ready Pete relaxed and talked to the guests...

Faith bought her dress at a thrift store for $15, now that's shopping for a wedding dress...It was georgous!!

Faith was a stunner when she was all dressed and Pete didnt look to shabby either...

We couldnt have asked for a better day, it was warm and the sky was amazing!!

After the ceremony we went off to shoot a few more formals...

Fall was the theme and I have to say this cake was really good...(what...?)

A little advice for all you Bride's and Groom's out there...payback really stinks!!

It was a great day and I wish Faith and Peter many years of happiness.

USGA State Team

This year I got invited to play in the United States Golf Association State Team Championships...They take the top three players from every state and send them to a tournament with the other 50 states to compete for the championship. The are holding it in Napa Valley, California at a gorgeous place called Mayacama Country Club. This Place is unlike any place I have ever been, very special. Ive been snapping away with new Droid X phone which has a eight megapixel camera that is very good. Here are a few pics I snapped tonight at the welcome dinner....Go team Vermont!!

Thats what my wife said to me right before we found this amazing spot and beautiful sunset...We were in Hampton Beach, NH going to see Tears for Fears and we had some time to kill. Driving up and down the strip was getting a little old so Robin said "why dont you cross that bridge and see whats over there?" Being the good husband I am, I drove across the bridge and we found these awesome dunes and sea grass to compliment the sky as the sun fell for the day. Moral of the story is always trust your wife/girlfriends judgment, they seem to have a sixth sense!! I took a bunch of different comps but this was the best.

Kaitlyn came to me a few weeks back asking if I was able to add some images to her modeling portfolio...I told her we would give it a shot (no pun intended).

We started by heading over to the killington flats in the morning and ending late in the afternoon in rutland. I thought we got a few great shots. Kaitlyn is new to the modeling game as am I so I thought we both figured it out fairly well.

USGA Public Links Championship

...I know this a photography blog and all that jazz but Im also a huge golfer and happened to qualify for this national championship. Ive been in North Carolina all week playing. I shot 72-72 in the first two days of medal play and qualified for match play, I ended up losing a heart breaker in my first match. Was 3 up with 5 to play and blew the lead. The match went two extra holes and I lost. BooHoo for me!! LOL. It was a great experience and I actually got to meet Robert Walker, one of the USGA's top photog's. He took this picture of me and I thought I'd share it with you pretty funny expression after liping out an eagle put to put a choke hold on the match...ok enough of my rant.

The New England Womens Am was held at Green Mt. National this week. I went out to shoot some of the leaders for the golf course. Some of these girls can really play...I was impressed!!

I had the pleasure of finally getting to meet Erin & Andrew last week as we met in Killington for their engagement shoot. They were a blast to work with and were real troopers as we spent at least 3 hours shooting. Erin &Andrew are getting married in Rutland, VT and having there reception in Brigewater, VT so we wanted to incorporate the Vermont surroundings in their E-photos. Erin's family owns a ski house in Killington so we spent some time on the mountain. Here are a few of my favorites from the day...

The northeast has been pounded with rain over the past few days. Places down south, like southeastern massachusetts and Rhode Island have declared state of emergencies due to the flooding. Thank god we live in the mountains or that would surely be our fate. I like rain in the spring, it helps melt the snow which makes the golf courses get ready to open and the streams gushing!!

EAGL Gymnastics Chmpionships

Saturday went down to shoot the EAGL Gymnastics Championships at UNH. I was very impressed with these girls...Their focus was amazing. Besides golf Ive never seen that type of focus. These girls have to deal with so many distractions, whether it be the loud music playing all the time, screaming fans and managing there coaches barking at them. I managed to capture a lot of the emotion of the day and in the end UNC came out on top with UNH finishing 4th out 8 teams. It was fun to watch.

One thing i liked the most was how all the girls on every team got into watching there teammates routines and almost silhouetted what the girl on the apparatus was doing.

Nubble Light, York, Me

Visited one of my favorite places in the world on saturday night...Nubble Light In York, Maine. We were racing to get there as the last light started to fade. Almost got killed on the narrow road up to the lighthouse as some kids pulled out in front of us. Was taking out my camera and getting it ready while driving (which isnt the smartest thing to do) as we pulled into the parking lot. Jumped out of the car to barely catch the last light on the lighthouse as the sun fell below the horizon.

This place has a certain way about it. You get there and it feels like your in another world.
